ABRACADABRA: Let's cast spells under the Gemini New Moon

Welcome to your June New Moon happening in the dualistic, buzzy air sign of Gemini. It’s cute, it’s flirty, it’s full of opportunity, and it offers promise of something fresh, new and deeply connective. New Moons kick off a beginning, a brand new cycle, making them ideal for setting intentions for said cycle. But they also arrive cloaked in darkness, oftentimes asking us to slow down, go inward, and replenish through rest and reprieve. Whether you're currently feeling revitalized by Gemini's electric buzz or more inclined toward solitude right now, please know that you can work your New Moon magic for up to 7 days after this lunation, so no need for any FOMO around here. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and the mind. Gemini energy is constantly reminding us OUR WORD IS OUR WAND, and this new moon gives some MAJOR abracadabra energy. (Did you know abracadabra means “I will create as I speak?”)

The Big Picture
At the time of the New Moon, we have the Sun, Moon, and Venus all meeting at 16 degrees Gemini. The ruler of this New Moon, the messenger and trickster, Mercury, is also in Gemini hanging out with the planet of expansion, Jupiter. It’s a big ole Gemini party up it here. The air is thick with the effervescence of possibility. Saturn, the planet of discipline, makes a square to the Sun, Moon, and Venus, driving us to commit to our desires and intentions in a way that sustainably provides for us in the long term. Saturn could also be highlighting ways we need to commit to ourselves (aka BOUNDARIES) to move towards the new idea/relationship/job/project/version of self we are pursuing.

It’s Giving a Discerning Meet Cute
With Venus so deeply influencing this New Moon, the Venus themes of beauty, pleasure, harmony, our values systems, and money are emphasized. As mentioned, New Moons speak to new potential or starting a new cycle. In the sign of Gemini, we are focused on connection. You may be kicking off or welcoming some new important relationships into your life, whether romantic, platonic, or business-oriented. If you are single and looking for partnership, I’ve got a real fun ritual for you that I’ll share below.

We're being reminded to prioritize true inner peace, beauty and interpersonal harmony at the foundations of any goals we're envisioning now. Whether nurturing an existing bond or initiating something fresh, this New Moon wants us to get on the same values-aligned wavelength as whomever or whatever we are welcoming (or reinviting) into our lives. This is also primo energy for collaborative intentions! Gemini's mercurial powers are giving us access to buzzy social opportunities to talk through, workshop and be newly inspired by perspectives from our people. The name of the game is cross-pollination.

All this said we get a healthy dose of discernment with Saturn’s task-daddy influence. If people or ideas seem too good to be true, we won’t be getting swept off our feet by them. Saturn is also bringing the action of hard work and discipline to the table, allowing us to sustain whatever it is we are choosing to initiate at this time.

A Small Gemini Tangent
This week I have been thinking about the concept of paradoxical moves * or rather than following the traditional path of working harder and harder and grinding more and more to achieve what we seek, taking calculated, unexpected actions that counter the norm yet support us in flying towards our goals in creative and innovative ways. Gemini energy rules non-linear thinking and Venus in Gemini excels are harmonizing non-conforming thoughts or actions into something beautiful. Venus in Gemini questions if those things REALLY don’t belong together (like pineapple on pizza, don’t @ me) or have you just never tried? With the New Moon occurring in the 2nd decan of Gemini (new to decans? here is more info), which is co-ruled by Mars and Venus, we are given an invitation to take some calculated risks in our acts of harmonization. This decan is all about leaning into our multiplicities and accepting that we are more than just one thing. To that end, there IS more than one way to achieve our goals. Focusing on maximum output or an endless grind is only one way of getting there. All this pontification to say, what happens when we approach our goals with the silly little ideas that come through while we are in the shower? What happens when we listen to the voices that we think are “too childish” “too silly” “too creative”? In embracing our multitudinousness, can we acutally achieve our desires in a more effective manner?

I say this we a grain of salt because these types of “paradoxical moves” aren’t going to work for every goal and can be talked about in a way that feels SUPER bypassy. I’m just feelin like this New Moon offers us the invitation to question what happens WHEN we tap into the Gemini-ness and the infiniteness of it all. Can we realize that taking that wild and creative action gets us closer to our end destination than following the power-point we laid out for ourselves? It’s not so different from when you need to solve a problem and the more you focus on it, the further away the solution feels. But when you let yourself go on a walk and let your mind wander, you suddenly have the solution. The most breathtakingly beautiful things can be born when we embrace the creative genius within that doesn't abide by the “rules.”

Rituals for this New Moon

1. Tap into the power of your words
With Gemini being an air sign, there is big power in tapping into the use of your words, they call it SPELLing for a reason 😉 This is a great moon for a letter-writing spell! It’s quite simple…
- Consider the goals you are trying to achieve and sit with how the future version of yourself will feel. You are going to write a letter to 6 months from now you, telling them how proud you are of all the things they have achieved - listing out clearly what those things are. Go into as much detail as you would like about how it feels to see them achieve these goals, and how it’s impacted their life - whether financially, romantically, creatively, stylistically, or otherwise. Write the letter as if everything you desire has already happened to future you. You are writing your future, baby! Date the letter December 15th, 2024 - this is when the Gemini Full Moon is. Seal it and address it to yourself. You have a few options as to what to do with this letter:
1. Keep it on your altar or somewhere visible to you as a visual marker that you are working towards future you.
2. Amp up the spell with a bit of candle magic. You can use any color of candle you like, but feel free to do a bit of research on color associations. On or around the New Moon you will hold the candle to your heart and speak into it your goals/ambitions/desires that you have written about in your letter. Place the candle over your letter on your altar and ask for support in your achievements. Let the candle burn through. If you have to blow it out for safety reason, whisper to the candle “remember what to do” each time you relight it.

2. Glamour Magic Bath
You know I love me some bath magic! This spell is all about imbuing your bath water with the vibration of how you would like to be perceived and cloaking yourself in it. For instance, let’s say your big intention is to launch your creative side hustle. You may want to be more VISIBLE. This ritual is best for IDEAS like money, employment, visibility, etc rather than attracting a specific person or situation. You can adorn yourself or bathwater with any oils or perfumes that relate to the energy you are looking to attract - ie basil for money, roses for love, chamomile or calendula for visibility etc. You are going to speak into the bath water the energy you would like it to embody - ie making yourself more visible. For extra credit, you can write this on a post-it and add it to your bath. Add any other herbal ingredients or items that represent or hold the energy of what it is you are looking to attract. Don’t forget to build in protections, so also speak to your bath water “May I be visible to all the right people who are aligned with my highest good, and may I be hidden from the trolls, those wishing me harm or throwing me evil eye.” Once you enter your bath you are going to repeat to yourself aloud the energy you are cloaking yourself in. For the example I shared this could sound like: “I AM VISIBLE. I am visible to my ideal clients and by being visible I am creating success with my creative endeavor. I am hidden from trolls, those who have ill will towards me or throw me the evil eye.” As you soak, imagine the frequency of visibility radiating off of you.

3. For Relational Clarity/Calling in Romance
If you are single under this New Moon and feeling ready to call in partnership, here is a ritual that I personally have had major success with multiple times. You are going to make a list of absolutely every single thing you desire in your partner - nothing is too small! Take your time doing this, it make take you a few days. Once you have your master list you are going to review and distill down to 21 items that you will make a new list with.

Once you have your list of 21 items, you are going to use with some candle magic. Use a red, pink or white candle and anoint with any of the following: sweet almond oil, rose oil or petals, cardamom, bay leaf, a bit of honey or sugar, and cinnamon. Speak into the candle that you are looking to attract your person and you open to how they come into your life if it is in alignment with your highest good. Place you list under the candle. Let the candle burn through. If you have to blow it out for safety reasons, whisper to the candle “remember what to do” each time you relight it.

4. Spoken Affirmations
I know, I know - these can be overdone. BUT, your words pack power, especially under this Gemini-filled sky! Come up with a handful of I AM affirmations relating to what you are desiring to manifest in your life - ie I AM A MONEY MAGNET, I AM WORTHY OF LOVE, I AM A WILDLY SUCCESSFUL ARTIST, I AM WORKING MY DREAM JOB….

You are going to write them down on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror. Speak them to yourself at least once per day.

Lastly, this is less of a ritual and more of an exercise or meditation. Sit somewhere comfortable and hold in your mind’s eye that thing you are hoping to achieve - be it a new job, a new relationship, to make xx more money per month. Think about what it FEELS like to have achieved it. Do you feel excited or nervous? Does it feel like something your nervous system can hold? Sometimes, are nervous systems aren’t ready to receive the success we desire. If as you move through this exercise, you notice your nervous system is overwhelmed, then this next step is for you. You are going to imagine a gauge in your minds eye and ask for the gauge to show you how ready you are to receive the thing you desire. If it’s not at 100%, take note of where it is at. You are going to move the gauge up to 100% with your finger. Sit with this image and reset it to 100% as many times as needed until it naturally goes there. I find this exercise partially helpful when we are looking to level up our finances. You may think you want to make XX more money per month, but sometimes seeing those extra numbers in our bank account (or just even thinking about them) overwhelms or makes us anxious. Sometimes we need to turn up the thermostat on our ability to receive what it is we desire and let our nervous system know we are worthy of it. This is a great way to do so! You can come back to the meditation at any time!
