Ancestry, Mother Wounds + Intuition...OH MY!
Insights, Journal Prompts and Tarot Spreads for the Cancer New Moon
Each month the Sun and Moon meet up to create a moment of darkness, stillness, and renewal known as the New Moon. On Friday, July 5th at 4:57pm MST they connect at 14° Cancer, inviting us into new storylines around family, ancestry, the idea of home, connection, and nourishment (both physical and spiritual). The New Moon makes a sweet conjunction with Venus, the ruler of love, beauty and values, who is also in Cancer. This adds extra tenderness and additional emphasis to relationships, and has us asking “Which relationships make us feel at home?” Mars and Saturn are in the mix with this lunation as well, reminding us to take the time we need and set compassionate boundaries. The most direct aspect to the New Moon is the asteroid Ceres, who is at 14° Capricorn, creating an exact opposition. Ceres is the goddess of harvest and agriculture, symbolized by a sickle. She is associated with motherhood, caretaking, nourishment and the ability to provide. She can show how we relate to our own mothers, but also how we mother and care for ourselves and those around us. Ceres also speaks to how we process loss, grief, and the seasonal shifts that life presents. With her strong influence on the New Moon, there is so much emphasis on how we care for and nourish ourselves, a major Cancer Season theme. With Cancer being so deeply related to our ancestry, and Ceres representing the Mother, we may see some intergenerational tension rising at this time, or perhaps some remembering that needs to occur in order to move forward. All in all, this New Moon is giving major REPARETING vibes.
I would be remiss not to mention how deeply intuition is related to Cancer, it is a water sign ruled by the Moon after all! As I have mentioned, nourishment is key under this dark sky - how we receive it or miss out on it - but this also includes SPIRITUAL nourishment. Do you take the time to listen to your intuition? How is your relationship with it? How do your psychic gifts relate to those in your family line? Did you inherit them from your motherline? This New Moon begs us to take a look at this, and if your mother wound (parent wound) is up for observation (thanks to Ceres), take note if that wounding has kept you from diving deeper into your intuition. This New Moon is made for rewriting that storyline. Perhaps there is some deep ancestral intuition or knowledge available to tap into under this dark sky - don’t be afraid to ask your ancestors for help!

Ritual Ideas
Attend to or build your ancestor altar (altar ideas and more in my Cancer Season Guide) and as a fun and simple act of divination ask your ancestors for a message through the next song you hear.
Cook yourself an ancestral meal, whether it be something your mother or grandmother made you or a traditional recipe within your lineage.
If you feel like manifesting, here is a great bath spell. Fill your bathtub with water and lots of epsom salt (we are creating a mini ocean in honor of Cancer). Surround yourself with candles, bonus points if you have silver candles, and white flowers. You can add herbs like lemon balm, chamomile, or jasmine if you like, but not necessary. Grab a small jar to have nearby. Stand in the tub and cast a circle of protection with more salt, your finger or athame. Call in your ancestors who have your highest good in mind for support. Speak aloud what it is you are looking to bring into reality over the next 6 months and then sink into your bath. As you soak, really FEEL what it feels like to have achieved what it is that you seek. The Cancerian magic here is in embracing that feeling and allowing the water to submerge you in that feeling. Upon completion of the bath, release your circle of protection. Fill the jar with some of your bathwater, which is imbued with your manifestations and place it on your altar. Ask your ancestors to support you in this physical realm from the astral realm to achieve your intention, let them know you are open to any signs or symbols along the way for support. Dismiss your ancestors and thank them for their support. Keep this water on your altar for the next 6 months, releasing it when your intentions manifest.
I also am very grateful for this
insightful post. What a lovely morning I have had reading it and feeling the love that filters through it. My mother is a frequent ancestral visitor as she is a very loving spirit. I am grateful to have come to an understanding that she did the best she could at all times while on this earth. I feel a new closeness to her that surrounds me with love. Thank you Lily for the loving gift of this post today! I am so appreciative of your knowledge and your desire to share it!
This is a very beautiful post and I really obviously can relate to it just having finished my story about my mother and continuing to build my altar around the horse which is my entire house. The horses are how I learn to mother and their mother and me I really really love this post thank you Lily for taking the time to explain this time in our universe to us
