On September 22nd, 2024, we welcomed the start of Libra Season hand-in-hand with the Autumnal Equinox. As a cardinal sign, Libra initiates, marking the beginning of a new season - in this case, Fall. Isn't it poetic that we call autumn "fall," coinciding with the Sun's astrological "fall" in Libra? And on the day of perfect balance between day and night, we usher in the zodiacal season of the scales. It's this poetry within the meaning-making that hooked me into astrology!
Understanding Planetary Dignity
Let's talk about planetary dignity in Astrology for a sec - the concept of a planet's "strength" or "weakness" depending on its sign placement:
Domicile: A planet in its home sign (e.g., Moon in Cancer). Planets here are fulfilled and perform their duties optimally.
Detriment: Opposite of domicile (e.g., Moon in Capricorn). Planets here may struggle to fulfill their duties straightforwardly.
Exaltation: A planet in its most revered place (e.g., Sun in Aries). Planets can do some of their best work when exalted.
Fall: Opposite of exaltation (e.g., Sun in Libra). Planets must get creative with their expression here.
(Side note: If you discover you have planets in fall or detriment, it's NOT a bad thing. Dignities are crucial for planetary magick and giving color to transits, but in birth charts, they tell a nuanced story. They are not a binary "good" or "bad" stamp.)
