Scorpio Full Moon 2024 - Astrology, Rituals, Tarot Spreads + Journal Prompts
This New Moon did not come to play. Our annual Scorpio New Moon is already arguably one of the most intense and witchy moons of the year, but this one comes to us during the Samhain/Día de los Muertos/All Saints Day…c’moooooon. The veil couldn’t be thinner and the night couldn’t be riper for transformation & magick. But there is more.
The Anaretic Degree
If you read my weekly astro forecast you already know this week is riddled with 29° energy. Refresher, 29° is the last possible place a planet can be before moving into the next sign. It’s the end of the race, it’s rushing to get everything done before a total costume change and it’s quite stressful and pressure filled. Pluto, the planet of transformation, death and the underworld, has been hanging out here since September, for the VERY last time in our lifetimes. It will enter Aquarius on November 19th where it will be until 2043. Needless to say, things have felt tense as we wrap up this Pluto in Capricorn era. I liken it to living inside a pressure cooker.
Dual Rulership
As you may know, Scorpio has 2 ruling planets (depending on who you ask). Ancient astrologers consider Mars, the planet of war, aggression and action the ruler of Scorpio. Modern astrologers consider Pluto, the planet of death, transformation and alchemy the ruler. I like to look at both. And BOTH are at 29° making an opposition to one another at the time of this New Moon. This tension is asking questions like:
What part of your power are you not claiming?
What valuable resources lie beneath your surface?
What do you need to compost?
What tools do you need to answer these questions?
New Moons may portend fresh beginnings, but this lunation requires some tiny deaths to facilitate the cycle of rebirth. To achieve the thing we need/want/desire, what do we need to cut? This Scorpionic hunt for desire requires us to get dirty. Death is so prominent during this lunation. It is the only thing we are all promised. And by contemplating death, we in turn ask ourselves, what do we want to do with our life? We’re in the ouroboros with this one, baby. By facing down death, by trimming the detritus and composting it, we in turn begin a new cycle.
Decan Deep Dive
This New Moon is at 9° Scorpio, the first decan of Scorpio. If you wondering WTF a decan is, it’s an ancient subdivision of the zodiac signs into three 10° sections, giving additional color and flavor to a sign. Side note, if you have never truly felt like you sun sign (I hear this a lot) look into what decan of the sign you are in, so much flavor is added! Ok back to the New Moon. This part of Scorpio is the most martian you could get, its like the memeified version of scorpio. Scorpio, scorpio. It’s ravenous, animalistic and eager to hunt down desires. Which begs the question, what do you hunger for? This part of Scorpio is all about the hunt. It’s tactical and obsessive, eyes are truly on the prize. Making this an extraordinarily potent lunation for manifesting our deepest desires, for alchemizing our forgotten magic. What power, hunger, and force is waiting to be stirred awake within you?
Support from Daddy Saturn & Future Echoes
This New Moon is making a trine to Saturn in Pisces. Saturn teaches us discipline, structure and boundaries. Whenever Saturn is involved, there are long term implications added. Big Daddy Saturn is lending a helping hand here, gently nudging us to do the transformative work, for our current selves and future selves. The long-termness of this New Moon is echoed by Mars, who will thanks to it’s upcoming retrograde will be spending January - April 2024 in Cancer. So the power you are uncovering at this time, the actions you are taking at this time, will come back for exploration next year.
TL;DR
This transformation shit? It's peak Scorpio energy - nothing really dies, it just shape shifts into something new. And with Mars and Pluto facing off at that tense 29°, we're getting real about where we've been white-knuckling outdated power dynamics and control issues.
Let's get real:
Where are you playing small when you could be playing sovereign?
How can you embody your inner ouroboros?
The timing is simply chef's kiss. This particular New Moon during Samhain/thin veil season isn't a coincidence, witches. The ancestors are in the building, ready to back you, your magic and your power.
Before I get into my ritual suggestions, I want to share that in pulling a card for the collective about this moon I got PROTECTION. I talk about magick here often and I hope it is implied that you always set good psychic boundaries and self protection before doing ANY workings. I want to be very clear and overt about this, especially because I will be suggesting some ancestor work, and when working with sprits and the dead, you absolutely have to put good protection up. This can be casting a circle, lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram, simply calling on your spirit team to have your back or using salt for protection. If you are looking for guidance on this, please drop a comment or hop in the subscriber chat. If you don’t already have a protection practice, this is your sign and time to adopt one before all workings!
Rituals and More for the Scorpio New Moon
These are potent and ready to use through November 8, 2024.
Honor the Dead
’Tis the season. Build an altar for your loved ones who have passed (animals too)! Leave them offerings. Tell them thank you. Build a relationship so you can ask for their support and protection.
Honor What Is Ready to Die
If you have clarity on what you are ready to compost, to let die, let’s hold a symbolic funeral for it. Celebrate the lifecycle of what has served you that you are now ready to let go. Either write down what you are putting to rest or find an object that symbolically represents it (something you are ok with burying and not seeing again). You are going to quite literally bury this, if you don’t have somewhere that you live that you can bury this you can do it in a pot of soil. Give it a eulogy, thank it for all it did and honor it by placing some fresh parsley atop the burial site.
Shedding of the Skin Alchemy Bath
Y’all know I find the bathtub to be the ultimate cauldron, and this watery Scorpio New Moon makes it the perfect vessel for transformation. Here's a ritual to shed what no longer serves and alchemize it into your desires.
Supplies:
Candles (as many as you want - this is a lights-off, candle-lit situation)
Your favorite body scrub
Dandelion Root tea (brewed before bath)
Epsom Salt
Optional: ritual smoke ( palo santo, rosemary, marijuana, incense)
Optional: crystals or other magical tools you're called to use
The Ritual:
Preparation
Brew your Dandelion Root tea
Clear and clean your bathroom space
Set up your candles
Turn off artificial lights
Have all supplies within arm's reach
Creating Sacred Space
Run your bath, adding Epsom salts
As the water fills, speak your intentions: "Sacred waters, I call upon you for alchemy and transformation"
If called, pass ritual smoke over the water to program it
Light your candles
Take three deep breaths to center yourself
The Shedding
Enter the bath mindfully
Soak and allow yourself to settle
Visualize what you're ready to release
Take your body scrub and begin the physical shedding
As you scrub, speak aloud: "I release... [state what you're shedding]"
Feel the old energy being sloughed away
The Alchemy
Hold your cup of Dandelion Tea
State with conviction: "As I pour this tea, I alchemize my slough into my desires. So mote it be."
Pour the tea into your bath
Close your eyes and visualize your desire manifesting
Watch yourself living it out like a movie and wee the steps that need to be taken to achieve it
Acknowledge all the skills and tools you already contain that allow you to achieve this desire
Integration
Continue soaking until you feel complete
As you drain the water, thank the water for it’s alchemy
Remember: Scorpio season is all about depth and transformation. Take your time with this ritual. Let the water hold you. Let the candlelight illuminate your truth. Let the alchemy happen.
Apple Manifestation Spell
This is modified from Juliet Diaz’s book “Plant Witchery”
Supplies:
1 Apple
1 Bay Leaf
Honey
Cinnamon
1 small piece of paper and pen
A ritual candle that will fit in the apple
Cut a hole in the apple and scoop out some flesh. Mash the flesh, bay leaf, cinnamon and honey together. Write down what you are manifesting on a the small piece of paper and place it inside the apple. Spoon some of apple mixture over the piece of paper and dress your candle with the remaining mixture. Place the candle inside the apple if possible and light it while speaking your desire. Ideally you are doing this on an altar where you can leave it until the apple begins to rot, at which point you can toss it.
Manifest with Sex Magick
In medical astrology, Scorpio rules the genitals - organs that quite literally create life. This connection makes sex magick (the art of using sexual energy for manifestation) particularly potent during this lunation. This practice is as old as civilization itself and can be a powerful tool for transformation and manifestation.
Before diving in, remember: this practice is deeply personal and can be performed solo or with a partner. Whatever feels authentic and empowering to you is the right choice.
For those curious to learn more about sex magick, I highly recommend exploring Gaby Herstik's work, particularly her book "Sacred Sex" for comprehensive guidance and historical context.
Preparation:
Create sacred space (candles, incense, clean sheets - whatever helps you feel ritual-ready)
Take time to ground and center yourself
Have your manifestation clearly in mind
Get crystal clear on your desire and engage all the senses: How does it look? How does it feel? What do you smell, taste, hear? Who are you in this vision?
How do you carry yourself? How does it feel in your body?
Now, hold your vision firmly in mind. As you build towards climax and your pleasure builds, feel and see your desire becoming more vivid. As you climax, visualize your desire manifesting fully, knowing that it is already yours. Bask in the afterglow and your own pleasure filled energy to seal the intention.
Aftercare & Integration
Stay in the energy for a moment
Thank your body and any guides/deities you work with
Journal about the experience
Drink water and ground yourself
Remember: The key to successful sex magick is maintaining focus on your intention while allowing pleasure to amplify your manifestation power. This is sacred work - treat it as such.
Journal Prompts
Your words are your wand. Abracadabra means “I create as a I speak”. Use this prompts to get some clarity on what it is you desire to create. These prompts are meant to be automatic writing style, don’t overly think about these questions, rather let them into your body and let you pen flow. Even if you don’t know what to write at first, write anything to get your pen flowing.
Where am I still playing by someone else's rules?
What parts of my power do I keep in the shadows because they feel "too much"?
What does my inner witch/magician want me to know?
What narratives or versions of self are ready to be composted?
What am I ready to hunt down and claim?
If I knew you couldn't fail, what magic would I work?
What ancestral wisdom lives in my bones that's ready to be awakened?
Suggested Tarot Spreads
I have two spreads I created for this time. Feel free to use any deck you are called to.
I am fascinated with this post! I realize that many in our family seek and often find ways to deepen the understanding of who we are and connect us to divine wisdom! Last Sunday I started a 14 week study of self healing through Tai Chi! I have practiced QiGong and Tai Chi on and off for many years. Since the pandemic I found a master teacher on line and feel it is my way of understanding and connecting with healing energy that guides me and surrounds me. Love you Lily and enjoy your loving and engaging energy connecting through astrology! Thank you!
Sending and receiving Love!
