On Sunday, March 10th in the wee hours of the morning, the Sun and the Moon will meet up in dreamy, mystical, and liminal Pisces. This is both the last New Moon of the astrological new year and the last New Moon before ECLIPSE SEASON. If you are like me and have yet to set your 2024 intentions or finish your vision board, I just want to assure you that you are right on time. This New Moon is the ideal moment for this sort of work. The Gregorian calendar is lameeee anyway, the Persians have it right (imho) with New Year coinciding with Spring Equinox and Aries Season - which is also the start of the Astrological New Year.
Pisces season is a potent portal, as the final sign of the zodiac it is an eternal swirl of endings and beginnings. Pisces is represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions - one in the physical, one in the astral, one beginning, and one ending. It is the sacred womb that we must swim through and let all the emotions of the year wash over us before we are reborn into Aries Season and SPRING! This New Moon amplifies the portal and begs us to look within to identify a seed of a dream to plant. This is a powerful moment to set creative and spiritual intentions and it is the last opportunity to set intentions or manifest for a while, as it is not recommended to do that sort of magical work during eclipses. (We will talk more about WHY NOT when eclipse season arrives!)
New Moons are a time of darkness, offering us a moment to look within, sit with what arises, and listen. At this time, you may require a bit of extra care and tenderness and Pisces season certainly invites us to be generous of spirit with ourselves and others.
I often find that on the New Moon itself, I am quite drained and the most important magic I can do is self-care. If you find this to be true for you too, I urge you to listen. And I must say, there is no better moment for a luxurious bath than a Pisces New Moon! You can set your intentions or work your magic in the coming days as the moon waxes (the portal for New Moon magic making is 3/10 - 3/17) and it will be even more powerful since you will be pouring from a full cup. And if you are feeling energized and ready to get to magic-making on THEE New Moon, that is great too. The most important thing is to check in and choose the path that you need, rather than forcing something because “astrology” told you to do so.

Let’s get into the chart of this New Moon.
The sun and moon are sandwiched between Saturn, the planet of hard work, discernment, and discipline, and Neptune, the fog-inducing creative muse and ruler of dreams. We are just coming out of a Neptune-Mercury conjunction when this New Moon arrives (which is a transit that feels very akin to Mercury Retrograde imo) and with Neptune being the closest aspect in this chart, we are certainly recovering from and still navigating the fogginess Neptune has been creating in our lives. Neptune does add a pop of dreaminess and dose of creative urge to this lunation and Saturn’s influence invites us to plant seeds that will sustain us for years to come.
The moon is ruled by Jupiter, who is nearing it’s conjunction with Uranus (which takes place on April 20th). This influence is pushing us into our future, asking us to dream big and out of the box. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and makes everything it touches feel overwhelming huge and present, unignorable if you will. Uranus is the planet of change, revolution, and sudden insight - it urges us forward into a new way of being. With their influence, there is a chance some sort of new information will arrive to you on the New Moon, but with everything being colored by the fogginess of Neptune, give it some time before you act on the information to ensure it is actually what it appears to be.
A quick note to my friends with strong cardinal placements (Aries, Libra, Cancer & Capricorn). The upcoming eclipses will affect us all but cardinal placements will be hit the hardest. This New Moon is so loving, generous, and care-oriented and I highly suggest you take this portal to give yourselves a serious dose of self-care. This is a sweet moment of reprieve before we move into the chaos of eclipse season, do yourself a favor and soak it up! Of course, I also suggest you set intentions if you are up to it, but if not, self-care is where it is at to support you for what lies ahead.
Here are some suggested rituals for the New Moon in Pisces. The portal for magic making and ritual in line with this New Moon’s energy is 3/10 - 3/17.
Dream Planting + Moon Water
This is one of my favorite rituals for growing an intention. You will pick out a small plant and pot of your choice, if you are already propagating clippings you could utilize one of those! Whatever your dreams or intentions are that you are setting on the New Moon, you will write them on small piece of paper that you will be able to roll up and plant in the dirt along with your plant. Adorn the dirt with crystals or other talismans if you feel called to do so. Water it as you speak your intentions or an incantation you have come up. When the moon begins waxing, fill a large jar or pot with water, feel free to add moonstone, citrine, pyrite (or any other crystals you feel called to) and leave it outside overnight to imbue it with the energetics of growth, determination and manifestation that the waxing moon offers. Use this to water your dream plant! Speak to your plant and take good care of it, it represents the dreams you are working towards growing!
Dream Sachet + Journal
Use a small pouch or baggy (something that will fit under your pillow) and fill it with herbs, crystals and talismans that support you. My suggested herbs are listed below, but feel free to use what calls to you. After you complete your sachet, hold it to your heart as you move into a meditative state. You are going to ask it to support you in traversing the astral realm and use your dreams to give you clarity on what it is you need to know in moving forward through this next chapter. End your meditation by speaking “So Mote It Be” to the sachet. Place the sachet under your pillow and record your dreams for the next week. See what themes arise and what you can divine from the astral to support you in the physical realm.
Suggested Herbs: Dried Rose, Mugwort, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Lavender
Bath Magic
Y’all may know by know, that ritual baths are my favorite kind of magic. What’s better than a cauldron you get to soak in? In my opinion, nothing! Whether you are looking to set big intentions on this New Moon or simply engage in some deep-level self-care to support you in recharging before the eclipses barge in, this is for you! Here are the ingredients you need:
Epsom Salt
A jar of lemon balm tea
5 -10 drops of Lavender or Rose essential oil added to 1/4 milk of your choice
Crystals of your choice - I would bring selenite, moonstone, and rose quartz
Herbs to use for smoke clearing - rosemary, palo santo, etc.
White Candle(s)
Add the crystals and candles to the edge of your tub before you start running the water. Turn on the water and then take a moment to ground yourself, and feel free to cleanse yourself with smoke or wave selenite over yourself as you do this. Set your intentions for this bath - deep self-care and renewal, transmissions from the astral, clarity on what you need at this time - it’s up to you! Ask the water spirits to guide you, add your ingredients to the tub, and enjoy!
Digital Vision Board Phone Screen Saver
I have always been a vision board girly, but in recent years the undertaking of it has overwhelmed me. I have shifted this practice into making small, digital collages that I use as my phone screensaver. We all know how often we look at our phones, so may as well make it our vision board! If you are wanting to utilize this New Moon energy to set intentions toward something, I suggest this ritual for you! I like to use Shuffles
by Pinterest but feel free to use Canva or anything you are already familiar with. Have fun getting creative and visually bringing together signs, symbols, words and images that speak to what you are growing towards or manifesting.
I hope you all have a beautiful, restful, dreamy, and mystical New Moon in Pisces! Please feel free to share any thoughts or questions below. If my writing is helpful, insightful or even just fun for you, please like and share!
