I usually get these out ahead of the Full Moon, but y’all, things have been rough and I’m sick. So this transmission is coming to you with the regard of “better late than never.” The October 17th Full Moon in Aries is our FIRST non-eclipse Full Moon since August! And she is potent, tense, and ripe for release. This Full Moon is the follow-up event. The Sun and the Moon, who are opposite one another (which is what a full moon is), are forming a Grand Cross with Mars (Aries’ ruler, the planet of action and aggression) and Pluto (the planet of transformation and our personal subterranean). Oh, and the Aries Moon is conjunct Chiron, the asteroid that speaks to our deepest wounds.
A Grand Cross is one of the most charged formations in astrology. It’s like a cosmic standoff, where each planet pulls in a different direction, creating immense tension. With Mars, Pluto, the Sun, and Moon all involved, expect power dynamics, confrontations, and opportunities for deep transformation. A Grand Cross always involves planets in signs of the same modality—and in this case, all the signs are cardinal.
Cardinal is a mode of energy in astrology, and signs in this mode (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) are the initiators of the zodiac. This means our Full Moon is charged with a need for action. It’s like a tug-of-war between our various needs: to bravely be ourselves (Moon in Aries) and heal our wounds around individuating (Chiron in Aries), to tend to our relationships (Sun in Libra), to learn how to lead with our emotions (Mars in Cancer), and to continuously march toward our goals and create fertile soil for our future selves by pruning what has died (Pluto in Capricorn). Each planet is pulling on you to act, but be mindful of the pressure—where are you being called to lead, and where might you need to hold back? It’s like tuning a guitar: too much tension, and the string snaps; too little, and no music. Where in your life do you need to tighten or loosen the strings?
Consider what has come up for you since the October 2nd Solar Eclipse in Libra—she sure was juicy and likely quite revealing in the realm of relationships. What have you realized in the last two weeks about your relationships and the people they do and don’t allow you to be? What has transpired that may require a redefining or reinforcing of your boundaries? To peel the onion back even further, consider what was coming up for you during the Solar Eclipse in Aries on April 8th of this year, which was also hanging out with Chiron. How have wounds around your individuality, people-pleasing, self-sabotaging, insecurity, urgency, autonomy, and authenticity healed or evolved since then? Astrology offers us a chance to draw connections between our past and present cycles, helping us navigate the road ahead with greater awareness.
Now, if you’ve been following along with me through eclipse season, you may recall that I’ve been strongly suggesting NOT to make magic, manifest, or set intentions during the eclipses. With this being the first non-eclipse lunation we’ve had in a while—and just how ripe she is for release—I VERY MUCH suggest working with her. I know y’all have some stuff to release from this eclipse season, ‘cause I suuuuure do.
Here are a few rituals I recommend. These should be completed by October 24th, 2024, to leverage this Full Moon energy.
Fire Ritual:
Take time to reflect and journal on what I mentioned about both the October 2nd eclipse and the April 8th eclipse. What themes are coming up? What words do you see repeating on your page? Within that—what are you ready to let go of? Maybe it’s your need to quickly jump into the role of people-pleasing all those around you. It can certainly be more than one thing! On a new page that you can tear out, write down those things you are ready to let go of, but write them all in the present tense, e.g., “I’m letting go of my role as people-pleaser.” After you have finished writing, gather a fire-safe dish and pour some salt in it before you place it in your bathtub or sink. Grab your list, fold it however you see fit, and hold it to your heart. Close your eyes and visualize yourself in the act of whatever you are letting go of—in this example, you would replay the most recent time you were a people-pleaser. Take that image in your mind and light it on fire, stating aloud, “I release my role as a people-pleaser.”
Open your eyes and light your list on fire in the physical realm while stating aloud, “I release my role as a people-pleaser across all my timelines. I claim my power as I bravely release what is no longer serving me. May I be free from the bounds of this role and move forward freely and courageously. And so it is.”
If possible, take the ashes somewhere you can release them into the wind; otherwise, flushing them down the toilet is just fine.
Supplies needed:
Paper (that you can tear out)
Pen
Salt
Fire-safe dish
Lighter or matches
Cord-Cutting Ritual:
This is a great time to cut the energetic cord on a person, version of yourself, narrative, or wound that you no longer wish to be tied to. You will want to do this at a time when you feel grounded, and please cleanse your space in any way you see fit before performing this ritual. Write your name on one candle and the name of what you are releasing from your life on the other candle. Tie the candles together as pictured below.Light the candle that represents you, stating that you are ready to release this attachment across all timelines. Light the candle that represents who/what you are releasing, stating, “I am now free from (state aloud what this is).” Now you will state aloud:
“As these candles burn, the cord shall be severed between me and (state what you are releasing) across all realities, timelines, and dimensions. I ask for the support of my ancestors who are in alignment with my highest good as I sever this tie, allowing me to move forward in my life freely, filled with love and courage. I release what no longer serves me. So it is, so mote it be.”
As the candles burn, sit with them, deeply embodying the feeling of these words. Once they have burned through, pour salt over the remnants before throwing them away.
Supplies needed:
2 small chime/spell/birthday candles (they can be in holders or you can melt the bottom to attach them to your fireproof surface)
String or twine
A fireproof surface for the candles
Love the candle ritual, the time sitting with the candles to reflect and watch! Thank you Lily!!!
