Release Imposter Syndrome + Welcome Nourishment under the Capricorn Full Moon
Insights and a spell for Solstice + Capricorn Full Moon
On Thursday, June 20th we welcome Cancer Season and Summer Solstice, marking our halfway point of 2024. We are at the top of the inhale! This is a moment to check in with all aspects of self - mind, body, and spirit. If you set intentions around Winter Solstice or for New Years, this is our moment to look back at that list and reflect on what we’ve checked off, what we’re still building towards, and what we want to scrap and instead move in a new direction. Look back at those vision boards, notes app, and journals! As we move into a new season, and the second half of this year, what do you want to leave behind and what will you carry forward? Cancer season emphasizes nourishment and caretaking - so what within yourself needs tending to in this new season?
The Solstice is followed by a Full Moon in Capricorn on Friday, June 21st. This is the first of 2 Capricorn Full Moons we will have this year. Capricorn energy is cardinal earth, ruled by the task-master and ultimate Daddy, Saturn. (PS I made “Saturn is my Daddy” hats, shop them here.) Capricorn wants to succeed. Capricorn is industrious and visionary. Capricorn is the project manager of the zodiac and has a keen eye for when to take the long road and when to take the creative road. Capricorn isn’t afraid to reiterate. With this Full Moon landing just a day after Solstice, it’s a 🤌🏽 time for reflecting on your goals, your achievements, and what you are still hoping to build toward. Here are some things to ask yourself:
What do you need to totally scrap and start over on?
What deserves a pat on the back?
What have you achieved that you are proud of?
What do you need to reiterate on?
Where do you need to restrategize?
How do you need to nourish and reparent yourself to keep moving towards your goals?
Capricorn is extraordinarily capable. And you my friend, are extraordinarily capable. In the Full Moon chart, the Sun (how you shine) is inconjunct Pluto (your personal underworld). When planets are inconjunct (also known as quincunx) there is a basic misunderstanding of one another. In this instance, there is a reconciliation that needs to occur between the conscious and unconscious self. With this Full Moon, and the energy of the Solstice, both offering us a check-in on what we’ve achieved and how we need to pivot or continue forward, our aptitude and capableness is certainly being examined. This check-in may have some of us feeling critical of ourselves. And to that end, I think the energy of this Moon offers an opportunity to RELEASE YOUR IMPOSTER SYNDROME! There is a deep well of sweetness, encouragement, and reparenting available with this lunation, with the Sun, Venus and Mercury all in the sign of Cancer. And IMHO facing down your inner saboteur and clearing the way for your own greatness is such an empowering form of care and reparenting.
Imposter syndrome…a lot of us deal with it at some point in our lives. We think it’s a hoax that we ended up in our jobs or we are just waiting for people to find out that we don’t really know what we are talking about. We are afraid to have it revealed that we are learning as we go, or we compare ourselves to others who we deem far more accomplished or capable than us. All of this can lead to anxiety, depression, burn out or plain up avoidance of our goals and dreams.
First of all, I want you to think back on this week, with Mercury and Venus chasing each other this week, you may have received compliments, acknowledgments or love notes over the past few days. They may have been subtle, so consider even the smallest thing you may have overlooked this week. Were you able to receive it or did you brush it off and deflect? How does your body feel when you receive a compliment? Do you jump to reasons why that compliment isn’t true or are you able to allow it to wash over you? If you received a compliment this week you deflected, stand in the mirror and repeat it to yourself. Even if you DON’T believe the compliment, imagine just receiving it and saying “Thank You”.
Now get 2 pieces of paper. On the first sheet of paper, divide it into two columns. In one column, make a list of what your goals are for this year or generally what you are hoping to achieve this year. In the second column make a list of what you have achieved this year, even if the items are unrelated to what was in column 1. On the second piece of paper, make a list of all the nasty beliefs and words you have to say to yourself about WHY you haven’t achieved all the things yet this year. Let your inner saboteur out and see what they really have to say. After letting all the nastiness out, flip the piece of paper over and start drawing what the nasty, saboteur looks like. It can be silly and childish, let your imagination lead the way.
After completing this, find somewhere comfortable to sit. You are going to close your eyes take 3 deep breaths, and imaging yourself cording into the center of the earth while you do so. In your mind’s eye you are going to picture a big, beautiful rose. You are going to imagine that there is a big pile of sticks in front of you and you are going to break up those sticks and throw them into the center of the rose for each of those nasty things you wrote about yourself. After you make it through your list and have thrown in sticks for all the mean things, you are going to picture the drawing you made, let your imagination bring that little saboteur to life. You are going to place that creature also in the center of the rose. Now for the fun part. Imagine a cartoon bomb or TNT and throw it at the rose. Watch it explode, and make sound effects for the experience. State aloud, “I banish you from my mind, body and spirit! I release my saboteur, I release my inner imposter. So mote it be!” Notice how you feel after this. And know, that this visualization is always available to return to.
Return to your list of mean things and drawings and safely burn this. Watch it burn and state aloud what you would like these ashes to become compost for. For example, “From the ashes of my imposter syndrome, I shall grow my confidence.”
After completing this, return to the list of your goals and what you achieved already this year. Flip the page over and make 2 columns. Based on how you may need to pivot or reiterate from the original set of goals, I want you to write a new set of goals for this second half of the year. In the second column, come up with 1 - 3 compliments about yourself that affirm you are capable of achieving your list. For instance, if your list contains “finding a new job” you would write a statement about how capable you are in that field. To close things out, you will stand in the mirror and read these compliments to yourself, even if you don’t believe them now. After reading them to yourself, state aloud “Thank you, I deeply receive this.”
I encourage you to work with these compliments throughout Cancer season as a form of nourishment. For extra credit, consider what sort of care the person achieving these goals needs. Is it extra rest on the weekends? Meal prep to ensure they are well fed? Alone time to get creative? Challenge yourself to attend to one need each week from now until July 22nd.
