Scorpio Full Moon 2024
Get in, we're spring cleaning the skeletons in our closet and cutting cords.
Congratulations, you have officially made it to the other side of Eclipse Season! This week’s full moon in Scorpio is the first lunation in a minute that is NOT an eclipse. But, that doesn’t mean it’s not intense. However, it does mean you are in the clear to make lunar magic again after our eclipse season hiatus. Let’s get into it!
On Tuesday, April 23rd at 5:47 pm MST, the moon at 4 degrees Scorpio will oppose the sun at 4 degrees Taurus, creating our yearly Full Moon in Scorpio. If Taurus is the rose, Scorpio is the root system - containing all the unseen, subterranean compost needed for one to blossom into something beautiful. Scorpio alchemizes our skeletons, our personal and inherited sediment, and our deepest emotions into compost to be utilized for lush growth. This Mars-ruled sign teaches the power of trudging through the darkness, sitting with our feelings no matter how uncomfortable they may be, and sitting in the deep, dark, cathartic parts of our psyche for personal transformation.
The themes of transformation, dusting off the skeletons in our closet, and taking inventory of what needs to be cut loose and composted are amplified by the fact that this Full Moon is square Pluto. Pluto is the God of the underworld and the modern ruler of Scorpio. Full Moons are a time of ILLUMINATION, they provide us perspective into the areas of life in which their lunar light is shone. In this case, the light is shining into the subterranean caves of Pluto. Perhaps there are diamonds or other gemstones in the rough, important resources, or maybe just some serious creepy crawlies in this underworld realm. If we think of what is literally underground - it ranges from valuable resources to decay, bugs, and bones that give you the ick and maybe make you want to look the other way. The catch here is if you look away, you miss the gold. Pluto has a knack for showing us what decay needs to be trimmed so a new rose can grow from the compost made of said decay. In short, this Full Moon reveals what needs to be purged and pruned. Upon excavation of our skeletons, there is the opportunity to discover all sorts of resources and gold that have been previously buried or overlooked.
The ruler of this Full Moon is Mars in Pisces who is working his way towards a conjunction with delusional yet inspiring Neptune later this week. The message here is to move slower than you think you need to, don’t over schedule, listen to your emotional and intuitive needs, and lower your expectations for achievement this week. This is a time for hanging out in the dusty, slimy, murky parts of your psyche, sitting with the emotions this brings up, and taking inventory. It’s not a time to push things forward in the external world. Consider the next few days spring cleaning for your psyche.
This is a very powerful Full Moon for a CORD-CUTTING RITUAL. If you are unfamiliar, this is a powerful way to release energetic cords that tie you to old versions of yourself, relationships or situations that no longer resonate, or really anything that is no longer serving you. There are many different approaches to this but the method I use the most and have had deep success with is a meditative visualization. I personally love to do this in the bath, but it is not necessary.
Here is an overview:
If doing this in the bathtub, run your bath with plenty of salt for ground and cleansing. Ensure that you have either a salt scrub or some sort of clay mask on your bathtub ledge, we will use it later. Dry brush yourself, visualizing that you are shedding what is no longer serving you. If you are not using a bathtub simply find a comfortable place to sit or lay down. For both methods, you will go through 3- 5 deep breath cycles as you call on your ancestors and guides for support.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself on the balcony of a theater looking down at a stage. You may ask any guides or ancestors to be present with you here. Take notice of who has shown up to support you.
Ask the person/situation/old version of self/narrative you need to cut the cord with to come to the stage. Visualize the cords between the two of you. What are they made of? What color are they? Examine them with curiosity.
After you have spent all the time you would like witnessing and examining the cords, ask for assistance in cutting these cords from one of the guides or ancestors who has been on the balcony with you. Whoever first comes to mind for you is the perfect assistant. Ask them to sever your cords with unconditional love.
Watch your cords disappear after they have been cut by your assistant. Where the cords were connected in your body, fill them with love and abundance. You can visualize flowers blooming into the holes and healing them, call in something that represents light for you. If doing this in the bath, use your clay or scrub to “fill” the holes on your physical body, this is a really great bridge into the physical world for this meditation.
As you fill in the holes state aloud: “I am free from all ties, cords, karmic commitments and bonds to (fill in the name of what/who you cut the cords from) in all timelines. We are both free.” You may tell whatever was on stage that they/it are free to go at this time and that you are now both living in sovereignty from one another. Thank your guide for their assistance.
Wishing you the best as you navigate the underworld under the bright rays of the Moon this week.
Ooooh resonates, such Important work right now, thank you Lily
