Happy Beltane to all! May 1st aka MAY DAY, is the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. It’s a fertility (apropos for Taurus season) and fire festival, offering us a chance to revel in the return of the sun as we plant our literal and figurative gardens. It is a time when the veil is thin between our world and the world of nature spirits, like fae. It’s a bountiful time to leave offerings or build small altars in your yard or local park, connect with the sensual experience of being the owner of a human body, and considering what you would like to plant for the months ahead (whether in your garden or in your life).
Since some of you may use this energy to look forward and consider what you are hoping to bring to fruition for this next chapter of the year, I wanted to share something I have been thinking about as I watch my yard and garden come back to life. Here in New Mexico, the neighborhoods are dappled with Lilacs, their enchanting scent and romantic color so ubiquitous with Taurus season. Iris and Tulips are also peaking at this time, bringing sidewalks to life all throughout town. This year, our Iris’ aren’t blooming. They bloom every other year. And it just had me thinking how some ideas/dreams/desires require more time underground than others. As you consider your desires and goals for the rest of the year, it’s ok if they don’t bear fruit until next year! There is so much value (and magic) in keeping things nurtured and buried until they are ready to bloom. I supposed I’m writing this as a note to myself really, a reminder to not always preemptively share what I’m working towards but instead waiting for the bulb to bloom to make my presence known. There is just so much wisdom from the flowers!
